-How did you become interested in becoming a creative person?
I was in my early teens I was obsessed with freestyle biking and skateboarding and the arts culture that surrounded it, magazines and graphics.
I started painting in my 30’s after many years of carpentry and building jobs. I was drawn to the arts via the culture of artist I met who were involved in the furniture markets I was exposed to at the time.
-How would you describe your work?
I describe my work as “All over the place” with a leaning toward inward reflection, exposing my inner world through color theory and symbolism.
Even though I tend to paint more figurative expressions these days, my most success in art came from my fluid abstract work, that I finished in a highly polished epoxy resin.
These days I find acrylics with heavy textures
pleasing through the use of palette knives.
I am also working on a portrait technique that involves prayer work and healing energies as I paint.
-What inspires you and brings you the most satisfaction in doing your creative endeavors?
I am inspired by my imagination usually. That’s where I start at least. Even when I think I have an idea of what I want to paint; I consult with my imagination.
Sometimes veering from the original idea, in order to incorporate visions I have held, or thoughts that have come to mind during the meditative process.
In some ways, I would say, I paint in a more spiritual way, where every element of my work has an esoteric and etheric meaning.
What’s satisfying to me is the feeling I create with a painting. Without it, it’s just not done, or needs to be painted over.
I tend to live by the gut feeling I have with art, which sometimes requires a lot of time and patience to get the results I find satisfying.
